Sunset Park
Project Information : San Marcos, CA
Client : ADL Planning
Sunset Park is a 20 acre multi-recreational facility located on the west side of San Marcos, California. Amenities include a lighted soccer/football field, lighted artificial turf indoor soccer arena, disc golf course, basketball courts, sand volleyball court, two separate playgrounds for children of all ages, shade structures, picnic areas, concession stand, restrooms, a splash pad, off-leash dog area, walking trails and a caretaker's residence.
The park has plenty of seating provided by Lithocrete® Sedimentary and stone walls reminiscent of a prehistoric era with sand blasted images of fossils and sea creatures. Beautifully colored Lithocrete® glass paving decorates both entrances to the park as well as the giant snake curling around the splash pad.
To complement the hardscape elements, native and drought tolerant grasses and trees dominate the surrounding landscape to reinforce the theme. Irrigation for the park is completely supported by an on-site well and even supports the splash pad element. The runoff from the splash pad is diverted into a cobble stream bed, under a bridge, cascades over stone weir walls, and ultimately into a detention basin where it can recharge the ground water.
