Artist Christie Beniston’s piece at Del Mar Highlands shopping center incorporates art into a fountain.  LithoMosaic and Lithocrete were chosen for safety and longevity to create this in-ground sculpture.  The Lithocrete and Lithomosaic interactive wet deck simulates a ripple in the water.  Seat walls also feature LithoMosaic reeds blowing in the wind.  The quote “Remember, there is no such thing as a small act of kindness, every act creates a ripple” is sandblasted along with dragonfly trails on the face of the amphitheatre seat walls as well.  Stainless steel dragonfly and fish were also embedded in the wet deck as well as the walls.  Over 20 different blue and green mosaic tiles were used.

The Lithocrete ripple is seeded with white and clear glass, puka shells, glass beads, abalone shells and various sizes of glass wafers.  An integral custom color was used for the water feature and the walls.  This project is a good example of art and practicality working in tune with each other.
